Campaign Communications: Defeating the I-526 Extension
Last fall, I co-led an extensive communication campaign to educate local voters on a transportation sales tax referendum on the November ballot that would have funded a highly destructive highway project endangering our local environment and communities, known as I-526. Within a coalition of nonprofits and NGOs, community groups, and other partners, I supported the months-long effort with the production of strategic materials and social media, direct voter outreach, and other advocacy engagement.
Ultimately, this campaign was successful when the project was voted down and defeated.

Advocacy & Media
At the core of this role, I build compelling narratives and find common threads to identify local connections and share the significance of our coast’s treasures and challenges. Through this process, I work with others to understand the history of issues, points of interest, and sensitivities, and to develop comprehensive communications strategies behind reaching a range of audiences.

In addition to supporting advocacy efforts through both day-to-day efforts and long-term campaigns, I lead our newsletter process and have expanded it to include new digital and print pieces, working with our program teams to share updates and action alerts based on audience interest and location.
My other responsibilities include media pitch writing and placement, social media content creation and platform management, graphic design for items such as project handouts and event materials, StoryMap and ad development, and blog and website management.
